Which companies are developing self-driving cars?

The recently held Consumer Electronic Show (CES) 2017 in Las Vegas mainly focused on the new technologies like driverless cars, 5G, and smart technology. It is expected this will form the major parts of the strategies of top tech firms’ this year.

Let’s take a look at the companies who announced their driverless cars at CES and those who are stepping forward in self-driving cars. Leading car manufactures are already focussing on this technology and started investing on the projects as they feel like the future of cars is evolving at a faster rate to the self-driving technology.

Let’s see some of the top technology firms and car manufacturers who are working on driverless cars.

INTEL:

At CES 2017, Intel announced about their new brand ‘GO’ which provides software and hardware designs to support the development of self-driving vehicles. It also includes 5G technology and software developer kit for having effective results on the self-driving technology.

For this, Intel entered into a partnership with the leading car manufacturing company BMW, and technology company MOBILEYE who develop vision based advanced driver assistance system with an aim of launching 40 autonomous cars on road by the end of 2017.Intel, BMW, and MOBILEYE together are planning to produce an open platform by the end of 2021.

BMW:

As mentioned above, BMW has collaborated with Intel and MOBILEYE to launch self-driving cars by the end of 2017.

Previously, BMW had teamed up with BAIDU to develop self-driving cars designed especially for china market. This contract has been called off in 2016 without any proper reasons.

Before this, BMW had tested driverless cars in 2011 with the model BMW 330i and later in 2014 with a 6 Series Gran Coupe. This year BMW used its i3 model in tests at Beijing. There are many BMW cars have been already connected with Driving Assistant System and Intelligent Parking.

AUDI:

German car manufacturing company Audi has collaborated with NVIDIA Technologies to develop Artificial Intelligence powered driverless cars by the end of 2020.

The partnership between Audi and graphic card maker NIVIDIA is not new. They have been working together from past several years, and Audi is using NVIDIA’s AI platform in their cars for monitoring road connection.

GOOGLE:

Google has announced that they are planning to stop the development of their self driving cars, and looking for partnership with known car manufactures who are already working on self-driving projects.

Google has been working on self-driving cars for several years, and collaborated with other car manufacturers working on driver-less technology such as Toyota Prius, Audi TT and Lexus RX450h. Google’s driverless car uses Bosch Sensors, and other equipment from Continental and LG.

Google is planning to launch a driver-less car without steering and pedal by 2020.

Volvo:

The leading vehicle manufacturing company Volvo is now mainly concentrating on self-driving technology, and recently launched ‘Drive Me UK’, a UK-based driving trial, which included 100 driver-less cars on roads with real people. This made to predict that Volvo will launch driver-less in near future.

BOSCH:

Bosch is equipment supplier for Google, BMW, and Tesla for producing automated driving cars. Now Bosch has announced about their self driving car by 2025. Bosch is a part of Automotive Research at Stanford, Silicon Valley Research Forum and IEEE Robotics and Automation Society.

TESLA:

Tesla already has semi-automated cars, and announced about fully automated cars or driver less cars that would be launched in 2 years.

Tesla ‘S’ model is a semi-automated car that can train each other by using ‘Deep Learning’ algorithms sent out and processed by fleet’s sensors.

 Conclusion:

As the days are passing, technology is evolving and working on user comfort. Almost all car manufacturing companies are going to launch their driver-less cars by 2020 as the future is going to be robotics and artificial intelligence. Not only manufacturing companies, but also leading Mobile application development companies India are working on new technologies where they can immerse mobile application in to driver-less cars as they can be able to manage driving.
